Club purchasing is an important aspect of anyone's game. The club should fit you and your swing. "Having clubs that fit is one less variable to worry about" (Tiger Woods). This is entirely true. Clubs should fit your, build, height, and strength. When you are just starting out go for the cheaper clubs. Maybe look at garage sales in your neighbourhood. At this stage of the game your clubs do not make a big difference. When you become more experience (consistently low to mid 90's) look for irons with a cavity back. Then when you are a 5 handicap or better look for a forged iron (also know as blade). These clubs are less forgiving, so you need to be experienced but they are really easy to shape your shots with them. That is why so many tour players used them.
Club Suggestions:
Driver: Nike SasQuatch Sumo (5000) or Sumo2 (5900). I personally use this club because it is very forgiving and still lets be hit bombed shots right down the middle.
Fairway Woods: Nike SasQuatch II Fairway Woods. I like this club because it's thin face allows you to absolutely bomb it ut it is still very forgiving and very accurate. This is why Tiger Woods uses it.
Irons: TaylorMade r7 or Callaway X-20. Both these irons have excellent technology which allow you to hit it farther. They both have a deep cavity which makes them forgiving and soaks up vibrations when you hit a bad shot.
Wedges: Nike SV Tour or Titleist Vokey Design: They both are forged wedges but because they are lofted an average golfer can hit them as well for a tour pro. They are good for scratch golfers and tour level players because they provide superior control. These wedges are my favorite.
